Drinking Horse Mountain is the prominent mountain situated above the Bozeman Fish Technology Center. The trail is conveniently located close to Bozeman across from the popular “M” trail. The trail starts heading downhill then meandering to a 50 foot-long bridge, followed by the trail entrance. The trail begins to climb to a trail junction, here right or left (steeper) will take you to the summit offering 360 degree views.

Directions: Head north on Rouse (eventually becoming Bridger Canyon drive) from downtown Bozeman. Turn right into the fish technology center and look for trailhead parking.

Short and sweet, this trail is my go-to hike at lunch or after work. Grab the dogs, drive five minutes, and voila. Good for a leisurely stroll with the girlfriend or a vigorous run to relieve stress and burn some calories. I used to hike the M all the time but now it's Drinking Horse 9 times out of 10.

a nice, easy summer hike - i usually head over after work, late afternoon, and i like to go up the steep route because it's mostly in the shade, then come down the easy way because the views are great and it's in the sun. plus, before the trailhead there's a little creek that's nice to cool off in afterwards (human and dog alike)

Yawn...boring hike and packed with tourists and dogs. Good luck dodging the doggy bombs. This trail and the M are almost always packed. Do yourself a favor....get out of town if you want to hike!!

great trail to the top of a small mountain just outside city limits... lower elevation make for a great trail for those who get the hiking itch in mid-spring before the trails higher up are clear of snow, or just a great short hike to take the dogs out on in the evening after work. Drinking Horse & the "M" trails are part of what makes Bozeman such a great outdoors-orient town!

Great hike. Beautiful scenery. As John said in a previous post, yes, there are dogs from time to time. Being an amimal lover, I don't mind this. As far as the trail being busy, that to me is a joke. I'm from the East Coast and have hiked many trails in the Smoky Mountains and surrounding areas. Try going there and then tell me how busy it is here. It's all about perspective. This is a wonderful hike.

This trail is perfect in so many ways. It's close to town, it's just the right amount of challenging, and it's a good alternative if the "M" is crowded. Excellent views of the canyon too.

The past few days, since the weather has been beautiful, Drinking Horse has been busier than ever. Lots of people out with the whole family enjoying the sunshine. This is my go-to when my family is in town, since my Mom doesn't mind a shorter hike like this, and my dad can fish down at the bottom!

The hike was great, mid-spring kind of joke to get you hyped up for other trails even though there is snow, can't wait! And amazing views, great picnic views with the table up top. Great trail.

Nice hike close to town. I love it that I can take my dog and not worry about crashing with a bike. It gets a bit hot towards the top. Next time I'll take the shady route. Bring water for your dogs and use the doggie waste bags!! Nice views! Not too busy. I went on a week day.

Great short hike with shade very close to town. Can't beat it if you work all day and don't have infinite leisure time like some folks.

What's your take?

So, what do you REALLY think?
