Ternua is a new company to the U.S., but has been making quality products in Spain for 20 years. Their new Ascent GTX Pro pant is designed with alpinism in mind, but works equally well for backcountry skiing, mostly due to its core material: new generation Gore-Tex Pro, which is more breathable and lighter than previous versions. The pants are comfortable, with pre-formed knees and an adjustable waist belt, but the fit in the thighs and butt definitely suggests more “skinny climber dude” than “ripping skier bro.” Extended side-zips vent well and allow easy entry and exit over boots (handy for winter camping), and construction has so far been bomber. The colors are distinctly Euro (read: bright), which is great if you want to be seen, but bad if you’re more of a “fly under the radar” type. $425; ternua.com
