I recently had a chance to try out the Alpen Teton 10x42 ED HD (extra-low dispersion, high-definition) and I have to say, I’m extremely impressed with both the feel and function of these binoculars. The BAK4 glass with PXA and SHR coatings allows a tremendous amount of light through, making the image bright and clear in almost any lighting condition. The field of view (315 ft. at 1,000 yds.) looks huge and helps keep the target in view. And the long eye-relief and twist-up eyecups allow me to keep my glasses on while viewing—a bonus not often found in other binos. Plus, these babies are rugged—I’ve used them to find wildlife, stars, birds, and more—basically anything worth looking at—and they show no wear after banging around in my car and in the field for months. The best part is the price, which is much lower than other comparable brands. If you’re in the market for a new pair of binos, this is one model that deserves a good, hard look. $480; alpenoptics.com
