Culture Big Sky, Big Sound: Butte
Check out the music coming to Butte, some right around the corner and some a little further down the line:
August 14–16
Uptown Butte
For some time now, Butte has been the most Irish city in Montana, and An Rí Rá is its proof of concept. Held every August, this free, family-friendly festival celebrates Irish heritage with traditional music, dance, and cultural workshops, featuring live performances by acclaimed artists from Ireland and across the United States. Beyond the music, expect Irish dancers, lectures on Irish history and genealogy, road bowling, a hurling exhibition, and an outdoor mass to close out the weekend. Regarded as one of the best Irish festivals in North America, it's the kind of event that draws people from across the country and gives Butte yet another reason to live up to its nickname — the Ireland of the Rockies.
Notable Nearby Activities:
With the Continental Divide right up the hill, there's lots of ways to fill the hours before the show. Here's a few places to start:
Mountain bike up on the Divide, hike out to Ringing Rocks, or wet a line on the Clark Fork.
