Review: Skratch Energy Chews

We review a whole lot of products around here, and many are lackluster. Not so with Skratch Energy Chews Sport Fuel ($2.75), which impressed every tester with its great taste and more-than-adequate stimulation. These flavorful chews are made with real fruit, and their "fast carbs" provide a genuine pick-me-up when you're feeling sluggish on the trail. And unlike most alternatives, they don't leave a sticky taste in your mouth, so no need to chug water afterward. Specifically, here's what the O/B crew had to say:

Tasty, easy to eat on the trail, and just a couple are enough to rejuvenate. Skratch Energy Chews are a great addition to my pack for hunting and trail running. I’ve also found they’re great at work, to shake off the mid-afternoon doldrums. —Chris

Skratch has texture and flavor I wouldn't expect from such good clean fuel, with sufficient caffeine for the inevitable mid-mission bonk. —Tim

The variety of flavors prevents monotony, and they actually taste good enough that I’ll go for a run or long hike just for an excuse to eat some gummies. —Jamie

After a long, arduous hike, wearily pondering the last thousand feet of vertical, I popped half a package and damn near frolicked to the top. This stuff works. —Mike

When tired and dehydrated, in need of a boost, ain’t nothing worse than powering through what feels like a mouthful of coagulated snacks. Skratch chews are fruity, refreshing, and easy on the digestion to keep me fueled and fast-moving. My favorites are the Sour Cherry—tastes like candy and the ultimate reward for topping out on a trail. —Georgia
