Review: Patagonia Durable Down Hoody

The Patagonia Durable Down Hoody ($365) is a sturdy, midweight jacket that is a benchmark in versatility for all kinds of winter activities and lifestyles. It strikes an ideal warmth-to-weight balance while maintaining superb comfort and freedom of movement.

The work-wear tough outer fabric is crafted with a lightweight version of Patagonia's Workwear Steel Forge, a ripstop body fabric that protects the 700-fill, 100% recycled down insulation from tearing and abrasion while the soft and cozy lining is designed to reduce bulk and increase packability.

As a guy designed with wide shoulders, I appreciate the mobility-specific features and discontinuous quilting that prioritize overhead reach and mobility to keep avenues of cold air from infiltrating the core. Whether ski-touring, belaying at Hyalite, biking around town, or walking the dog and sledding at Peets Hill, the Patagonia Durable Down Hoody is a highly reliable option that lasts while transitioning smoothly between activities and backpacks.
