Fall is prime race season. Here are a few to put on the calendar.

The Tour de Hyalite is a Bozeman-style biathlon including a 15-mile round-trip hike/run to the top of Hyalite Peak followed by top-roped climbing at Practice Rock. This year’s race is scheduled for September 19 in hopes of avoiding the thigh-deep snow from last year’s competition. Total scores are calculated by deducting climbing points from running time, and participants can compete solo or as a team. After the race, hit the after-party, complete with a gear raffle. For more info and to preregister, swing by Barrel Mountaineering or Northern Lights.

Come race September 26 in the 8th annual Drop & Trot, a unique Bozeman race in which you reduce your running time by doing push-ups. Choose from a family fun run / dog jog, a 5k race with (optional) pushups to deduct time, or a 10k race through the beautiful downtown course. All proceeds benefit the Network Against Sexual and Domestic Abuse. Sign up at thenetworkmt.org.

Burn off a few calories before your Thanksgiving Day feast by heading to the Museum of the Rockies November 26 for the 3rd annual Huffing for Stuffing race, offering a 5k, 10k, and kids' run. If you outrun the poor sap who has to run the 5k in a turkey costume ("smoke the turkey"), you win a prize. All race proceeds go to the Gallatin Valley Food Bank (bring nonperishable food donations). Check out huffingforstuffing.com for more specifics and sign-up info.

For those of us who plan to commune with the couch this fall instead, here's your crutch: the 9th annual Lewis & Clark Marathon has moved to spring 2010, so you've got a little more time to train.
