Get Out & Skate

Ice-skating options around Bozeman.

There’s no shortage of opportunities around Bozeman for you to slide and glide on the ice.

Bozeman’s three public skating rinks—Southside Park at 5th & College, Bogert Park off S. Church, and Beall Park at Villard & Black—are open every day, all winter long, weather permitting. Hockey hours vary and are posted at the rinks. To check on conditions of the rinks, call the Bozeman Parks Department at 582-3200.

If you’re not so sure and steady out there on the ice, the Recreation Department also offers classes; call 587-4724 to register.

Another option is Haynes Pavilion at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds, which provides refrigerated ice and open skating hours. The times for free skating vary each week, so call 587-7144 or log onto bozemanhockey.org for regularly updated schedules and information about the Bozeman Amateur Hockey Association for both adults and children.

If you’re looking for something more au natural, Dailey Lake in Paradise Valley is a popular option for pond-skating also—but remember, always make sure the ice is fully frozen before heading onto it. Canyon Ferry and Harrison Lake may also be worth checking out this winter.

With all the skating opportunities available in this area there is no excuse for sitting in front of the TV and watching hockey games. Get out there and hit the ice for yourself.
