Stoops, Kira

These comfy-cute snow boots belie a beastly survival instinct. I jumped into ankle-deep half-frozen puddles, and watched the water just roll off. Trekking up snowy, wet trails, I couldn’t keep them dirty. Icy concrete? No slipping. The Madison Insulated Bdry from Oboz kept my feet warm in a blizzard, even when the rest of me froze, and they only got a little swampy indoors when I sat a foot from a heater. One bummer: these don’t pack the same arch support as Oboz hiking boots, even with the BFit Insole. With my flat feet, this demanded going a half-size up. Still, the Madisons are plenty supportive and stable, so consider it a small tradeoff for aggressive tread, toasty insulation, and rugged style. With a struggle-free zipper entry, they’re easy to throw on for all-purpose Bozeman wintering: snowy strolls, slushy errands, sloppy Peets laps, and plenty of mixed conditions in between. $165; obozfootwear.com
