Book: Bear Country Behavior

Bear Country Behavior: Essential Skills and Safety Tips for Hikers (Falcon Guides, $13) by Bill Schneider covers everything you need to know about grizzly bear interaction, distilled down to a handy, throw-it-in-your-bag size. Perfect for reading around the campfire, this sleek, 100-page guide covers popular bear myths, proper bear spray use, and plenty more. He even throws in specific details for photographers, hunters, and mountain bikers. While I didn’t find any groundbreaking details (except for the theory that human sexual activity may attract bears—uh oh…), it’s still a great guide to brush up on bear info or as a gift to an out-of-state friend heading to Yellowstone.
