Hootin’ and hollerin’ aside, rodeos are some of the best events of the summer. Check out traditional bull riding and calf roping, or see what wild cow riding and mutton busting are all about. Crack open a cold one and kick back—just remember that at a rodeo, “PBR” can mean two different things.

Mid-/Late June
West Yellowstone Rodeo – Mid-June marks the beginning of a summer-long series of rodeos in West Yellowstone, Wednesday-Saturday nights, ending September 1. yellowstonerodeo.com.

Late June
Big Timber Rodeo – A classic small-town rodeo, this event is authentic and low-key, and features a crowd favorite: wild cow riding. 932-6228. 

July 4-ish
Livingston Roundup Rodeo – Drawing over 10,000 spectators every year, this is the area’s premier rodeo and Western hoe-down. livingston-chamber.com.

July 4-ish
Ennis Rodeo – Called by some the most exciting and challenging rodeo in Montana, this one’s always a good time. 682-4700.

Mid-July
Three Forks Rodeo – Another genuine small-town event with two nights of rodeo action along with music, food, and a parade. 285-4556.

Mid-/Late July
Gallatin County Fair – This traditional western fair features a rodeo, tractor pull, mutton busting, and pig wrestling. gallatincountyfair.org

Late July
PBR Livingston Classic – The world’s top bull riders and bucking bulls compete head-to-head. livingston-chamber.com.

Late July / Early August
Big Sky PBR – Big-name riders from around the world compete in this two-day professional bull-riding event. explorebigsky.com/bigskypbr.

Early August
Park County Fair – In Livingston, this fair features a rodeo in their spectacular outdoor arena. parkcounty.org
