The Mammut Superflash is the Sherman tank of climbing ropes. At 70m long, 10.5mm thick, and able to withstand up to 14 UIAA-rated falls, this thing is bombproof. It’s ideal for expeditions, gym climbing, big-wall climbing, rescue and guide work, and suitable for mixed, ice, and sports climbs. You won’t find a more dependable rope, period. That said, the width can cause an issue if you use a standard ATC with a rope capacity of 7.7–11mm, as you might find yourself force-feeding the rope through the device while you lower your partner to the ground. The extra width and length also adds more weight, so this may not be your best bet for long approaches. Either way, any climber can be at ease when attached to the Superflash. Available at Northern Lights. $320; mammut.ch.
