Committed to the Cause

With 84 years under his belt—and a heart palpitator inside his chest—Bud Lilly still can’t seem to slow down. The indefatigable octogenarian’s latest effort is a new Gallatin River access point in Logan, upstream from the bridge at the I-90 exit. A full three acres of unused land and dilapidated railroad-era buildings will be converted into a veteran’s fishing park, administered by the local American Legion; a smaller county park; and an official state fishing access and boat ramp managed by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. Bud gathered a committed cast of locals—including land donor Tim Crawford and legendary outdoorsman Joe Gutkoski—to tackle the ambitious project. The veteran’s park should be useable by mid-summer, with the rest of the project completed sometime this fall.
